Researchers believe the benefits of mindfulness are related to its ability to calm the body’s response to stress.
Mindfulness and Relaxation, what is the difference? Mindfulness is being aware of your thoughts and relaxation is to be free of tension. You could very well be aware that you are calm and relaxed or just the opposite, stressed! However, it is important that you acknowledge your present state of mind and address any concerns you may have.
So how can we relax when our minds are constantly in disarray? There is no simple answer to this question. We all have very busy and different lives, and our environment plays an important role in our thought process and how we choose to respond to situations around us. When we are stressed, not only is our mind in conflict, but also our bodies. Do you ever feel that you are carrying a heavy load on your shoulders?…literally! Your shoulders may feel tight and stiff as a result of stress and tension. According to a 2017 study involving 148 people with migraine, nearly 67% of the participants also experienced tension-type headaches and neck pain.
Here are some tips to help relieve some of the pressure:
➡️ Try breathing exercises for relaxation, taking slow deep breaths.
➡️ Go for a walk for some quiet time to clear your mind and reflect on your thoughts.
➡️ Write your thoughts on paper.
➡️ Soak in a bath.
➡️ Talk. Sometimes all we need is a compassionate and understanding ear. Someone we can trust to share our thoughts with.
