There is a sense of familiarity, security and certainty in our comfort zone. It makes it super easy to never push the boundaries, because it’s extremely comfortable in our little bubble. But let’s be honest, are you really happy or just comfortable? change only really happens when we test those boundaries and dare to step out of what is familiar. Stop avoiding what scares you. If change is what you need in your life to be happy, then you must change your habits. Easier said than done? of course it is!! So how do you begin to step away from what is your ‘norm’ without giving up at the first hurdle?
To be honest, people usually fall into a state of stagnation when they are bored, afraid of the unknown, avoid undertaking anything new and being placed in an uncomfortable situation over things they have no control over. Below are a few tips you may want to consider:
➡️ One way to get outside of your comfort zone, is to expand it. Rather than doing your usual 5k run three times a week, add some circuits or strength building exercises to your workouts.
➡️Another approach is to hang out with risk takers. If you want to get better at something, start hanging out with people who are doing what you want to do and start emulating them.
➡️Take baby steps toward the fear you are trying to overcome. If being in large social gatherings make you nervous, start with smaller groups more often.
➡️Focus on the fun. Enjoy the process and take a light hearted approach. By doing this, you are more likely to stick with your goal.
➡️See failure as a teacher. Many of us would rather do nothing than fail at our dreams. However, we must see failure as our teacher. We must learn from our experience and move on.
