Why Happiness?

If you had one wish what would that be? We all have wishes, expectations, hopes and dreams. For some of us, our needs outweigh our wants. For others, our wants are far greater than our needs. But putting all materialistic things aside, financial worries, family bereavements, health issues and insecurities, the one thing that we all need is happiness.

Happiness is so important to us, both as individuals and as a world, primarily because happiness is really all there is and the one thing we all want. When we are happy, we are carefree and less stressed. As human beings, we are highly “thought” oriented, the quality of our lives is ultimately ENTIRELY determined by our emotions. For example, if you could choose, what would you rather have; a life of a very rich, attractive, successful, healthy powerful person who despite all of those blessings is very unhappy or that of a very poor, unattractive, unsuccessful, unhealthy and powerless person who is nevertheless fortunate enough to be very happy?

We cannot seek happiness in things; things that do not add sustained value to our lives.  Happiness is not only that huge smile on your face. It’s a sense of being. A conscious choice on how to live your life. Happiness is extremely important to our own goals in life and can help us achieve many other cherished ambitions. With happiness, we have the potential to change many other lives just by being ourselves.

Sure, we can’t always be happy. Afterall, we are only humans with a plethora of emotions. Life has a funny way of challenging you in the most inopportune times. But we have a choice; we can succumb to a life of misery, sadness and misfortune or take the path to happiness. When life serves you lemons, then you must make lemonade. Don’t let those lemons topple you to the ground. Rather, catch those lemons, make lemonade and make a profit out of it.

Tomorrow is not promised to anyone, but don’t let that get in the way of your happiness. Look into your past, learn from it and move on. Whether good or bad, take those life lessons and apply them to your future, because your future depends on your happiness. What do you want your tomorrow to look like?
