Whenever you decide to start a fitness programme, it’s important that you remember to train S.M.A.R.T. Sometimes we get consumed by the idea of loosing weight quickly, but in reality this isn’t healthy or advisable. In order to achieve successful results, it takes time, patience and consistency. Remember to choose a programme you can commit to. Establish a good relationship with your fitness instructor, personal trainer or fitness institution. If you are unsure of anything on your programme or don’t know how to begin your training, ask questions! Your health and fitness is a journey for life and it is not a race.
Here are a few tips to train S.M.A.R.T
➡️ S – be specific about your goals. What do you hope to achieve in your fitness programme? The moment you focus on a goal, your goal becomes a magnet, pulling you and your resources towards it.
➡️ M – measure your goals. Keep track of them. A goal without a measurable outcome is like a sports competition without a scoreboard or scorekeeper.
➡️ A – Are your goals attainable? Ensure you set realistic goals. Talk to your personal trainer/fitness instructor. Make sure that you both are ‘on the same page’ when it comes to your goals. The last thing you want is to become discouraged because the goals you set are not attainable.
➡️ R – Your programme must be relevant to your goals. Are you training sensibly or adequately? Is your programme designed to meet your goals? It’s important to stay on track and focused on your goal.
➡️ T – Timing is important in any programme you set. Give yourself a target. Do you want to train for an event? I.e. 5k run in 3 months time? Then you know you have a specific time to set your targets to reach your goal. Timing keeps us motivated, focused and committed.
