Stay On Track With Your Nutrition This Winter.

As we approach the festive season, there is no doubt we will be looking forward to socialising more with our family and friends and indulging in our favourite foods and drinks. But how do we stay on track with our fitness goals when there is so much variety on offer? Pre-planning your meals and the days of the week in which you will be away from your normal routine is key. This doesn’t mean that you should avoid going to gatherings that may tempt your palate.

Below are some tips to help you stay on track:

✅️Avoid skipping meals. Stick to your regular schedule.

✅️Eat a healthy snack before venturing out to gatherings to control your appetite.

✅️Portion control is key. Do not overload your plate. Stick to normal size portions. Think a fistful of carbs, veg and protein. Adapt this mindset for festive treats.

✅️Sit down to eat your meals and practice mindful eating.

✅️Choose your meals wisely. Vegetables and lean meat will fill you up and keep you full for longer.

✅️Choose homemade foods instead of processed meals.

✅️Stay active. Maintain your physical activity to counteract extra calories. Don’t underestimate the importance of a healthy walk.

✅️If you drink alcohol, stay within the guidelines of 14 units a week for men and women. You can alternate alcoholic drinks with juice flavoured seltzer or water.Oh! If you don’t already take supplements, I would recommend Vitamin C and B12 daily, which helps form and maintain healthy bones, cartilage, skin and blood vessels. However, please do speak with your GP or doctor before taking any supplements if you have any health conditions or taking other medications.

Remember that your health and fitness is a journey for life. Your mind and body interacts and influence each other. Therefore, taking care of your physical body is good for your mental health.
